Ash Barty – An Australian inspiration
Ashleigh Barty won her first Wimbledon crown on Saturday 10th July 2021 in London.

She is the first Australian woman to win Wimbledon since Goolagong triumphed in 1980. It’s a big day for all Australians and Ash is an inspiration to little girls who want to follow her.

She followed her dream with agility, toughness and sticking to the plan and sealed her Wimbledon dream at the age of 25 years.

Just like her idol and mentor Evonne Goolagong Cawley half a century earlier, Barty, another Indigenous Australian, claimed the title beating Karolina Pliskova in a nerve-shredding final in London.

Ash is officially the world’s best women’s tennis player since June 2019. Wimbledon is her second grand slam title and first was French Open in 2019.  She is a good Cricketer and a formidable golfer too.

She is well known as a woman who is down to earth, deeply proud of her Indigenous heritage, and remarkably a very good human being. However, her path to the Wimbledon crown was not that smooth. After playing her first Wimbledon at the age of 17, she had to wait 8 years for the crown. She took two years break from Tennis and went to play cricket professionally which worked wonders with her and climbed tennis rankings steadily after that.

Her story tells Australia’s next generation to Dream Big and Believe in Yourself.
