  This is women’s health week!
Posted by: HarshiDaz - 09-07-2021, 10:04 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

  Women’s health week!

For women and girls across Australia, Women's Health Week is a campaign of events and activities. All centered on improving women's health and helping to make healthier choices. Consider this week as a reminder for all women to know.

“you are important and your health matters”.

Many women are pretty good at putting themselves last, focusing on the health of their loved ones at their own expense. There are barriers to a healthy lifestyle such as lack of time, family commitments or other priorities when you ask women.
Women health and wellbeing matters not only to them, but whole society as well.

To help you stay healthy, and to pick up early warning signs of any disease or illness make self-checking a part of your regular routine. Things to monitor at home include;

  • Maintain a healthy weight by eating a variety of nutritious healthy foods, have regular meals and have a healthy eating plan.
  • Exercise at least 30 minutes per day.
  • Monitor your mental health by giving attention to the symptoms such as intense sadness, irritability, fatigue and anxiety, or changes to your eating or sleeping habits.
  • Monitor skin for freckles and blemishes.
  • Clean your teeth regularly, eat a low-sugar diet and visit a dentist at least once a year.
  • Keep alcohol intake at a minimum and keep at least two alcohol free days.

Intimate partner violence is one of the greatest impediments to women’s physical and mental health.

If you’re experiencing family violence , talk to someone who can be trusted or contact one of the family violence helplines.

You can keep yourself active by going for 30 minutes’ walk mid-day or afternoon. Eating a balanced diet, checking in with friends and family and getting a good night sleep at night are good choices you can make.

  Happy Fathers Day!

Fathers Day celebration today !

Father’s Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in September in Australia, hence Today the 5th September 2021 this year. So, with the big day fast approached and the gift-giving season is upon us, it’s time to answer the age-old question, why is it completely different from the rest of the world.

There is no specific reason why Father’s day in Australia falls on a different day. However, its just before the footy finals take place. Some even believe when the Australians decided to adopt it, they chose not to wait a year to celebrate. Instead, the day was simply inserted in later in the calendar.
And also Australia isn’t alone in it’s September Father’s Day celebrations. We are one of four countries where the event is observed on the first Sunday in September. The others are Fiji, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand.

Whether we celebrate in September or June , Fathers are special and we know they are celebrated & in the hearts of children all 365 days !

Australian Father’s day traditions include;
·      Gift giving
·      Outdoor activities
·      Barbeques
·      Handcrafted gifts by children

Hope the dad's already had the breakfast specially made with live by the children and be spoiled with loads of hand made cards, crafts and gifts.

Enjoy the day !

  First day of Spring!
Posted by: Semini Kulatunge - 09-01-2021, 09:16 AM - Forum: General - No Replies

First day of Spring!

Whether there’s still cold days or you’re traipsing through a field full of flowers, Spring officially arrives today.

Let this new season bring more hope to the world.

From the freshness of air or blooming of flowers in your neighborhood, there are plenty of reasons to embrace the spring season!

Whether you’re raising veggies for the family meals or just like a few flowers by the front door, spring is the season for getting your hands dirty.

There’s no better time to discard the unnecessary items that have piled up in your garage, closets, and corners. Think about how you are unloading the unwanted, great finds in the stacks of stuff you’re unloading or where you like to donate or sell your extras.

A new season means a new set of sports. It could be your kids running, jumping, climbing or you play a round of golf or just getting excited for some events coming up.
The longer days of the spring mean there’s more time for nature walks and playing in the backyard.

Recipes and dining out
Great weather means a change in your eating habits, dining out under the sun, tasting loads of home-made food.

Ash Barty – An Australian inspiration
Posted by: Semini Kulatunge - 07-18-2021, 12:25 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

Ashleigh Barty won her first Wimbledon crown on Saturday 10th July 2021 in London.

She is the first Australian woman to win Wimbledon since Goolagong triumphed in 1980. It’s a big day for all Australians and Ash is an inspiration to little girls who want to follow her.

She followed her dream with agility, toughness and sticking to the plan and sealed her Wimbledon dream at the age of 25 years.

.png   Picture1.png (Size: 391.62 KB / Downloads: 9)

Just like her idol and mentor Evonne Goolagong Cawley half a century earlier, Barty, another Indigenous Australian, claimed the title beating Karolina Pliskova in a nerve-shredding final in London.

Ash is officially the world’s best women’s tennis player since June 2019. Wimbledon is her second grand slam title and first was French Open in 2019.  She is a good Cricketer and a formidable golfer too.

She is well known as a woman who is down to earth, deeply proud of her Indigenous heritage, and remarkably a very good human being. However, her path to the Wimbledon crown was not that smooth. After playing her first Wimbledon at the age of 17, she had to wait 8 years for the crown. She took two years break from Tennis and went to play cricket professionally which worked wonders with her and climbed tennis rankings steadily after that.

Her story tells Australia’s next generation to Dream Big and Believe in Yourself.
